Free QGIS Courses

How do I register?

Registration for the courses is free and required in order to access the material.  Students will enroll in our hosted Canvas Learning Management System operated independently by Simply click on the links below and create yourself a free account and begin learning.  Remember, these free courses are self-taught.  There are no live instructors in these free versions.  If you desire classes led by a live instructor that lead to a degree you need to enroll in our fee courses by emailing here.

The Curriculum

The five courses we offer are derived from a multiple year long effort, that engaged geospatial educators from colleges and universities world-wide who reviewed and selected a subset of specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) that meet the workplace competencies of entry-level geospatial technology workers. These courses have been sequenced into a coherent curriculum that includes these five GIS courses:

  1. GST 101 Introduction to Geospatial Technology Using QGIS 2.8
  2. GST 102 Spatial Analysis Using QGIS 2.8
  3. GST 103 Data Acquisition & Management Using QGIS 2.8
  4. GST 104 Cartography Using QGIS 2.8
  5. GST 105 Remote Sensing Using QGIS 2.8 & GRASS 7.0

Open Source Curriculum

All of the curriculum is available for free to educators worldwide under the Creative Commons BY 3.0 license.  You can access the latest curriculum here.
